Bakhos, Hopkins Named To Academic All-Southland Basketball Teams

FRISCO, Texas - Lamar basketball standouts Aida Bakhos and Darren Hopkins were named to the Capital One Academic All-Southland Conference teams as announced by the league office on Monday.

Hopkins was named the men's second team after posting a 3.10 gpa in general studies. He finished fourth on the team in scoring with 11.1 points per game and was second in SLC games at 13.8 ppg - which ranked 11th among SLC leaders. The senior from Baltimore, Md. made 46 3-pointers overall, which ranked 14th in the SLC. He finished ranked fourth on the team and 15th in the SLC with a .371 3FG pct. and was also 19th in the SLC in minutes per game, at 28.9. He had one double-double and 18 double-figure scoring games, with 13 against SLC teams. Hopkins was named Honorable Mention All-SLC in 2006-07 and 2007-08.

Bahkos was named the women's first team after compiling a 3.10 grade point average in general studies. This season she made 31 starts and averaged 6.9 points per game overall and 7.4 in SLC games. The senior from Beirut, Lebanon, ranked third on the team in minutes played, at 29.9 mpg. She led Lamar in rebounding this season with 227 boards, which ranked sixth in the Southland Conference. In conference play she pulled down 100 rebounds which was the 12th most in the league. For her career Bakhos scored 365 points and pulled down 419 rebounds.
