Lamar Men's Tennis Falls to New Mexico State 5-2

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite winning the doubles point to start Thursday afternoons match against New Mexico State, the Lamar University men's tennis team could not overcome a solid Aggie effort in singles play, falling 5-2 in San Antonio, Texas. Lamar falls to 5-12 overall with the loss while NMSU improves to 9-5 on the year with the win. The Cards began the day by winning the doubles point, as LU won at No. 1 and No. 3. In a matchup of nationally ranked doubles teams at No. 1 doubles, Lamar's No. 42 pair of Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz defeated the No. 52 pair of Roman Stoisavljevic and Eduardo Salas 8-6 while Mario Janjic and David Wanja took down Jim Brouleau and Jeff Pfeifer 8-6 at No. 3. In the match at No. 2 doubles NMSU's Gustave Diep and Alejandro de Mucha downed Allan Gomes and Diego Snyder 8-2. In singles play the Cards lone victory came at No. 4 as Snyder knocked out Stefan McKinney 6-4, 6-1. Gomes lost a close three set match to Salas, falling 3-6, 6-4, 13-11, while the rest of the Cards were defeated in straight sets. The LU men will be back in action on Saturday in Edinburg, Texas when they take on UT-Pan American at 2 p.m.
