LU Men End Season With 6-1 Loss to TAMU-CC

Results

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team closed out the 2008 season with a 6-1 loss to the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts in Beaumont.

The Cards began the match be grabbing the doubles point as Mario Janjic and David Wanja defeated Jose Zunino and Jan Cingel 8-6 at No. 3 while Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz held off Dmitry Novikov and Mikhail Pavlov 9-8 at No. 1. The Islanders won the match at No. 2 as Laurent Montoisy and James Langford took down Allan Gomes and Diego Snyder 8-4.

In singles play the Islanders prevailed in all six matches to close out the SLC schedule undefeated for a third straight season.

Montoisy took out Kanczula 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Novikov held off Bogusz 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 at No. 2 and Pavlov beat Janjic 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Cingel won at No. 4 singles by taking out Snyder 7-5, 6-2, Zunino defeated Gomes 6-1, 7-6 at No. 5 and Langford handed Andres Medina a 6-4, 6-0 loss at No. 6.

The Cardinals finish the season with a record of 7-16 overall and 1-5 in Southland Conference play.
