Sondra Ancelot is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Lamar University women's basketball team. Prior to coming to Lamar she served as the head coach at Orangefield High School the past five years.

Ancelot is the Lady Cardinals recruiting coordinator, responsible for guard play, will work with offensive and defensive team strategies, and the scouting of opponents.

At Orangefield, Ancelot posted an impressive 139-35 (.798) record and guided the Bobcats to two district championships, four playoff appearances and two regional tournament appearances. She was also named the 24-3A coach of the year, the 21-3A coach of the year and the TGCA South All-Star coach during her time at Orangefield.

A four-year letterwinner for the Lady Cardinals, Ancelot returns to the University where she was a member of the NCAA Midwest Regional finalist team in 1991.As a player she made her mark in the record books, ranking fourth in single season free throw percentage at 84 percent, fourth in career free throw percentage at 79.9 percent and fifth three point field goals made in a career with 80.

Ancelot has prior experience as an assistant coach on the division I college level, spending four years at Northern Illinois University and two years at TCU before heading to the high school ranks.

As an assistant coach at TCU, Ancelot was involved with on and off-campus evaluation and recruiting of prospective student athletes, directed summer camps and oversaw the academic progress of the student athletes. She did individual and team skill work contributing to the overall team performance as well as scouting and other administrative duties.

At Northern Illinois she was in charge of editing video of practice and game films, overseeing the strength and conditioning program and was the community service liaison. She was also involved with on and off-campus evaluation and recruiting of prospective student athletes, was assistant director of summer camps and did individual and team basketball skill work.

Before taking over at Orangefield, Ancelot made a pair of stops on the high school level. She spent one season as the head coach at Hardin-Jefferson High School where she posted a 15-13 record, and was the freshman girls head coach and varsity assistant coach at North Crowley High School.

Ancelot received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Lamar in 1994, a Master's of Education in sport management from Northern Illinois in 1996 and a Masters of Education in school administration from Lamar in 2005.
