RIM TO RIM WITH LADY CARDINALS BASKETBALL

Oct. 17, 2007

LamarCardinals.com spent some time with "SHARP SHOOTER" Emily Spickler this past week and got some inside information on her game, her former high school coach, and thoughts on Lamar Lady Cardinal Basketball. Spickler, a 3.9gpa Business major, led the nation on the junior college level in free throw percentage (92 percent) and was second in 3 pt. shooting percentage at 50.3 percent. Spickler is from Salina, Kan.

LC: Throughout your career you have always been a great shooter, so give us a few secrets to your success and who do you give credit to for developing your shot. ES: Lots and lots of practice on the gun. My dad has watched me shoot for so long; he can immediately tell me when I'm doing something wrong.

LC: While at Salina South HS in Salina Kan., you played for legendary coach Bruce Erickson. Give us a brief description of your experiences with him and his program. ES: He was my coach for about eight years. He has taught me everything I know. I can't thank him enough for all his time he has sacrificed for me.

LC: Give us your first impressions of Lady Cardinal Basketball and what excites you the most about this team? ES: I couldn't ask for better teammates. I can't wait to start playing games and begin the new era of LU women's basketball.

LC: LamarCardinals.com caught you on TV last week doing an interview, how did you like that experience? ES: It was kind of scary. It was my first time being interviewed on TV. I was just glad I didn't mess up.

LC: What are your plans after you finish playing basketball? ES: I'm majoring in business, so maybe an accountant or a recruiter under coach Tidwell

LC: If you won tickets to go to any concert in the world, which would you go see and why? ES: that's tough, Taylor Swift, The Fray or Yung Joc. They are all so different and I couldn't make up my mind.

LC: Who has had the most impact on your life outside of the basketball arena and why? ES: Definitely my family. Without their love and support, I would be nothing.

LC: Your roommate is Tamara Abalde from Spain. What have you learned about her and Spain? ES: she's teaching me a lot of Spanish. I plan on going there this summer and she tells me there are a lot of cute guys.

LC: Your current GPA is an outstanding 3.9, how does this success happen in the classroom? ES: If you go to class, take notes, and study; it's impossible not to do well-I'm good at memorizing. I guess that helps.

LC: LC.com has observed leadership qualities in you during practice. What type of leadership skills do you possess and how does it affect your team? ES: I lead more by example. I try to always be positive and push my teammates and be there for them on and off the court.
