Lady Cardinals Soccer Falls at UTSA 2-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite a solid second half performance against league leader UT San Antonio, the Lamar University soccer team could not overcome a 2-0 first half deficit, falling to the Roadrunners 2-0 at the UTSA Recreational Sports Complex.

The Lady Cardinals, who fall to 0-17 overall and 0-7 in Southland Conference play with the loss, take on the Texas State Bobcats in San Marcos, Texas on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Roadrunners improve to 8-7-2 on the year, and 6-1-1 in conference play with the win.

Lamar fell behind 1-0 on a goal by Alli Dillon in the 16th minute of the first half. Dillon found the back of the net again with just three and a half minutes to play in the half to put UTSA up 2-0.

The Lady Cardinals stepped up their play in the second half, holding the Roadrunners scoreless for the final 45 minutes, but could not find the back of their net themselves.

Stefani Turner and Aline Pugliesi led the offensive charge for Lamar, taking four and three shots respectively. Each player registered two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Kelsie Binetti had a busy night between the posts, wracking up 17 saves in the match.
