Results

BEAUMONT - Battling cold, wet and windy weather, the Lamar University women's tennis team continued their strong start to Southland Conference play with a 7-0 win over UT-Arlington on Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts

With the win the Lady Cardinals improve to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in Southland Conference play. The 7-0 victory is the first-ever sweep for the Lamar women over the Mavericks. UTA falls to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss.

The Lady Cards started the match by grabbing the doubles point with wins at one and two doubles. The number one duo Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez defeated Klara Jagosova and Monika Hadvigerova 8-3 and Manijee Ashrafi and Maria Gutierrez downed Sara Pesic and Nelli Bodiford 8-0 at No. 2. The Mavericks picked up their lone win at No. 3 doubles as Sofya Lifanova Daiana Negreanu took down Kaltrina Harbuzi and Salina Aranda 8-5.

.In singles play Martinez posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Jagosova at No. 1 while Mariaryeni Gutierrez closed out Hadvigerova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Harbuzi took down Lifanova 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, Maria Gutierrez picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Pesic at No. 4 and Ashrafi blanked Bodiford in the No. 5 spot 6-0, 6-0. The Lady Cards won the match at No. 6 singles as UTA forfeit the match.
 

 

The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday when they play Texas State at 10 a.m. and again on Sunday morning when they host New Mexico State at the Cardinal Courts at 10:00.
