No. 73 Lady Cards Tennis Runs Win Streak to 10 with Sweep of Marist

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's tennis team ran their win streak to 10 with a 7-0 win over the Marist Red Foxes at the Cardinal Courts on Monday afternoon.

Lamar improves to 12-1 overall with the victory while Marist drops to 1-7 on the year.

The Lady Cardinals began the match by easily winning the doubles point, led by the No. 1 duo of Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez who teamed up to blank Christine Ong and Cassie Strange 8-0. At No. 2 doubles the Lady Cards tandem of Maria Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi defeated Alexa Strange and Mirelva Colon 8-1 while Anahita Jagtiani and Manami Kuroda took down Emily Zampello and Natalie Fouché 8-1 at No. 3.

In singles play the Lady Cardinals did not drop a set as they closed out the sweep of Marist. Mariaryeni Gutierrez beat Ong 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, Maria Gutierrez downed Cassie Strange 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Ashrafi took down Alexa Strange 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Salina Aranda matched Ashrafi's effort with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Colon at No. 4, Jagtiani cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Zampello at No. 5 while Kuroda took down Fouché 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.
 

 

The Lady Cards will be back in action on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they host the McNeese State Cowgirls at the Cardinal Courts in Southland Conference action.
