No. 75 Lady Cards Roll Over McNeese State 7-0

Results

BEAUMONT - The No. 75 Lamar University women's tennis team ran their win streak to 11 with a 7-0 win over the Cowgirls of McNeese State at the Cardinal Courts on Thursday afternoon.

Lamar improves to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in Southland Conference play with the win while McNeese falls to 5-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play with the loss.

The Lady Cardinals began the match by easily winning the doubles point, led by the No. 1 duo of Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez who teamed up for an 8-1 win over Meri Gol Alamo and Victoria Martinez. Maria Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi won at No. 2 doubles, taking out the Cowgirl tandem of Maria del Rocio Frau and Petra Gudelj 8-4 while Kaltrina Harbuzi and Salina Aranda picked up an 8-5 win over Inga Efimenko and Natascha Jongeneel at No. 3.

In singles play the Cardinals cruised to a sweep of McNeese for their fourth straight 7-0 win. Martinez won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 over Alamo, Mariaryeni Gutierrez improved to 14-0 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jongeneel and Harbuzi knocked out Victoria Martinez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Maria Gutierrez handled del Rocio Frau 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Ashrafi defeated Gudelj 7-5, 6-1 and Aranda battled back for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 6.
 

 

The Lady Cards will be back in action next Thursday afternoon at 1:00 when they take on UT-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas.
