Five Questions With Destiny Mason
Question 1: At the midway point in the season, you are one of the leading hitters on the team, and you rank second on the team in digs. What does it mean to you to be so productive as a freshman, and did you expect to make this big of an impact so early in your career? Answer: I did expect this out of myself. I really like playing defense so that part come s natural for me, but I wasn't expecting to start when I got here, so that part has kind of been a surprise to me. Question 2: Do you think other teams sort of overlook you because you are only 5'8"? Answer: I do think a lot of teams overlook me, but that's okay I use it to my advantage. Coach Gibert always tells me that because I'm small, if I don't hit high I'll get blocked. But I really don't try to use the block. Half the time I jump over the block anyways. Question 3: You said earlier that you really like to play defense. What is your approach to the game? Answer: I would rather play defense over offense any day of the week, but when I'm out there I just play. I don't worry about stats or anything like that. Question 4: How is college volleyball different from high school and club volleyball? Answer: It is definitely more time consuming. You're in the gym a lot longer. Question 5: If you could change places with any teammate of yours, who would it be and why? Answer: I would trade places with Andrea (Hamilton) because I love to play defense and all she plays is defense.
