Five Questions With Shalayne Blythe
Question 1: With this being your first year as a college volleyball player, what has the experience been like for you? Has it been anything like your freshman year as a softball player at Sam Houston State? Answer: It has been kind of like my freshman year of softball. I've had to build chemistry with a new team and have had to learn where to go because I hadn't played in three years. This is a different level of play, and I had to learn that during my freshman year of softball as well. Question 2: What made you want to walk on to play volleyball here at Lamar? Answer: I guess there were a couple of reasons. My family told me I should do it and I really enjoyed it when I played in high school. It was a big decision whether to play that or softball in college. They kind of talked me into it and I decided to see what would happen. It's been a good decision. Question 3: As an all conference softball player you saw what it takes to be the best at your position. Have you been able to relate that to your teammates on the volleyball team here at Lamar? Answer: I just know that it takes a lot of hard work. I put in at least five or six extra hours every week and would drive all the way home for pitching lessons during the week while having to be back at class in the next morning. It takes extra work and dedication to be an all conference player. You can't do the minimum; you have to do the maximum. Question 4: Is it nice being close to home where your family can see you play without having to take a long trip like they did when you were at Sam Houston? Answer: It has its ups and its downs. They are always there for me whenever I need something. It's a change, but it's a good one. Question 5: If you could change places with any teammate of yours, who would it be and why? Answer: I would change places with Molli (Abel) because she's always ready for the games and she motivates the team. No matter if we're playing the best team or the worst team, she's always ready and gets the team ready. She brings a positive attitude on the court, even in the worst situations. And she's really good.
