Five Questions With Adrianne Meengs

Question 1: Last Saturday night you all won a thrilling five-game match against Stephen F. Austin and broke their 62-game conference winning streak. What was it like going through the match the way it played out?

Answer: I felt like we kept it close in the first two games, but they would pull away at the end and come away with the win. I think during those two games we saw that they were beatable. They were really solid, but they were nothing we hadn't seen before in the preseason. The turning point was obviously Ashley's (Todd) four aces, and the momentum totally swung our way. After game three, everyone was standing around and talking about how we were going to win because all the momentum was ours.

Question 2: What was it like to have a large group of fans at the match, giving you so much support on the road?

Answer: It was huge. It was a big factor in us getting the momentum and being charged up to play. The fans were awesome because it was not just our parents, but a bunch of students. Hopefully that was just setting the tone for the rest of the volleyball season and the rest of the sports here at Lamar.

Question 3: You have four triple doubles this year. Why are you able to be so versatile on the court?

Answer: I feel like I just react to what the other team is giving us. If the other team respects me and follows me, then I can set our hitters more often. I won't have as many kills, but it gives our hitters wide open swings. If they're not going to respect me, I can keep hitting it and being offensive until they do.

Question 4: You're just a sophomore, but your teammates look at you the like an upperclassman and a leader of the team. How does that make you feel?

Answer: I don't really notice it. I am really flattered that my teammates have that much respect for me, but I just try to do my part to help the team win.

Question 5: If you could change places with any teammate of yours, who would it be and why?

Answer: I would change places with Destiny (Mason). She can jump out of the gym and I want to know what it would be like to jump that high. She also plays crazy defense and gets all sorts of balls up. She always knows where the ball is going to be.
